About the Featured Artists
Rene Fisher
Rene Fisher (b.1992, Arlington, Virginia) currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland. Rene Fisher is an multimedia artist working primarily in painting, textiles and performance, via video-installation. Fisher's focus can best be associated with thoughts on spirituality, death, sex and psychological states.
"The bodies of work are musings of myself and my own divinity. I find that in my many legs of my practice I am always alchemizing fears and adversity through transformation in order to reclaim my power. The Spirit, The Erotic, and The Black Woman, are the anchors of why I create." -Rene Fisher
Monique Ribeiro
Monique Ribeiro, a visual artist originally from Mesquita, Baixada Fluminense, holds a bachelor’s degree in Arts and a master’s degree in Contemporary Art Studies from the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF-RJ). Ribeiro focuses on Afro-figuration and black female identities. Her work currently explores clothing as a way of portraying black narratives, weaving visual stories that redefine the use of fabrics and adornments, connecting Afro-Brazilian and African traditions. With a keen eye for black identities, Monique uses her works as a space for dialogue and transformation, exalting the intrinsic beauty of blackness in a world full of uncertainty.
